FESTIVAL DANCE CENTER, under the direction of Rita Taylor, was established to offer the diverse, concentrated, course of study representative of the WSFB core values of training and performance. With a long career of offering dance study in the Triad, Rita has had over 300 students go on to such noted schools and companies as University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Point Park, Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, School of American Ballet, Boston Conservatory, Joffrey Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Ballet Met, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, River North, Pilobolus, and Momix.
GARY TAYLOR, Founder and Artistic Director of Winston-Salem Festival Ballet takes a very active interest in the school. He visits classrooms and consistently teaches master classes to upper level ensemble students. Gary is considered a premiere expert in classical ballet, pointe, and partnering training. Students also receive the mastery of his choreography as his works are often adapted for student performance.
COURSES OF STUDY
ENSEMBLE CLASSES are offered for beginner through pre-professional starting at age 7. Age and ability appropriate classes are available in Ballet, Pointe, Partnering, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Musical Theater. Audition is required for proper program placement to ensure optimum benefit. Full time ensemble members study a minimum of two - four days a week based on level. WSFB professional dancers highlight the full-time and guest faculty and staff offering students the full range of their expertise. This translates into a unique and rewarding classroom experience..
STUDIO/PK DANCE CLASSES is a program specifically focused on the preschool (Ages 3-6) and early elementary years teaching pre-ballet/ballet, creative movement, tap and acrobatics.
A caring and nurturing environment is essential for each of our dancers in order to experience the joy of dance. We see our dancers as unique and talented individuals. It is our commitment to help grow their talents and abilities. Dance not only gives young people self confidence, it also fosters leadership, creativity, problem solving, teamwork and a life-long love of the Arts.
Each year Festival Dance Center Spring Ensemble Production is held in June at the Arts Council Theatre. The Studio/PK Dance students are featured in the matinee. Tickets are available at the door.
